[FPSPACE] question about Alan Shepard's Mercury flight

Does anyone know how early on was the timetable declared by NASA for the
first "in space" attempt with a man?  (As in May, 1961?)

 

If anyone knows, and has a bibliographic citation to go along with their
information, that will be most helpful.
