The pictures purporting to show the Baykal launch are indeed photoshopped,
but not the three images showing an orbiter with the name "Baykal" during
pre-flight testing. Baykal was the name originally painted on the first
flight vehicle. Indications are that the vehicle was renamed Buran in May
1988, just prior to an experimental roll-out to the launch pad. Until 1987
Buran had been a generic name used to refer to the combination of rocket and
orbiter (until the name "Energiya" was coined for the rocket in May 1987).
In 1988 it became the name of an individual orbiter, namely the vehicle that
flew the one and only Soviet shuttle mission in November 1988.
