I was the subject a newspaper article telling of a UFO sighting over the San Francisco Bay in October 1963. It was a classic V-formation of nine lights which changed from near red to white when and as it moved from south to north, appearing to stop each time the color changed and dimmed to red. Others reported the same phenomenon from as far south as Baja, and as far north as Fairbanks in a matter of about 40 minutes (Mach 8 or faster). There were no rocket launches from Vandenberg that night. Later it was thought that flights of the A-11/A-12 might account for the sighting, but it was apparently not so (there were not enough of them at that time to fly that formation). That incident later became part of the Project Blue Book records. To me, it remains a mystery!

In July 2004, I reported here on fpspace a Mach 8 or faster object flying over mid-Ohio, essentially from east to west. It was not a meteorite, a satellite or space debris (I'm very familiar with those sightings), but it might have been what has been called Aurora. It was after dark at about 10 PM, so the con-trail (donuts on a rope) usually associated with Aurora sightings was not visible and there was no sound associated with it.

At one point in my working career (ca. 1987), I flew over Area 51 and saw some very strange things, one of which probably turned out to be the F-117, but, as we now know, that craft reportedly flies only at sub-sonic speeds. So, could some of those other very strange things account for the Ohio sighting? I don't know. But, doesn't that still make them UFOs?

  Cheers,
  Ed
