    Folks,

   a few yrs back there was a discussion here that at one time top
Soviet officials had claimed that the shuttle "practised dive-bombing
Moscow".  If they themselves had been contemplating "aerospace antipodal
bombers" that could explain why they were paranoic about apogees &
perigees in shuttle orbits, though goodness knows these are pretty
circular.
