Thanks for the heads-up. It's certainly an interesting meeting, although not many of us can head off to France on two weeks' notice.

NASA and the NASM are also hosting a Sputnik 50th anniversary conference, "Remembering the Space Age," in September in DC. I submitted an abstract for that one.

FYI, as the Sputnik commemoration draws closer, more events such as meetings, radio programs, TV shows, etc. are no doubt going to emerge to join the one doc film already discussed on this list and the two meetings mentioned above. If anyone hears of a demand for an intervieweee, commentator, etc. on the Sputnik/Explorer/Vanguard era, I know there are others on this list as well, but I'm certainly available. My book The First Space Race (Matt Bille and Erika Lishock, 2004) was very well reviewed. We did some of the last interviews with now-departed leaders of that age, and I think the Foreword to that book was the last thing the late James Van Allen ever wrote for publication.

Regards,
Matt BIlle
