This is a very preliminary notification of an interesting story
coming out. A number of 'space sleuths' are nibbling
at its edges.
Russian news source (in Russian)
http://www.gazeta.ru:80/social/2007/08/27/2096464.shtml
reports that Kobalt-class recce sat Kosmos2427 was
deorbited routinely after 76 days, last August 23.
That appears to coincide with the sighting of a flaming object
crossing the Black Sea and the Abkhazia region of Georgia,
where anti-aircraft guns opened fire thinking it was a Russian
military jet.
There remain some unresolved garbles of timing of these events.
Russian space officials denied there were any satellite
entries over the area that day -- but that probably refers
only to expected natural decays, and they may not
have been notified of the deliberate de-orbit of 2427
that day.
