ERNEST C. WATSON LECTURE SERIES: "CASSINI-HUYGENS AT SATURN" (FEATURED
EVENTS)

At 8 p.m. on April 25, Dennis Matson, project scientist for NASA's
Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn and Titan, will present a Watson
Lecture in Beckman Auditorium. The Cassini spacecraft is in orbit
around Saturn, and the Huygens atmospheric probe descended by
parachute to the surface of Titan, the largest of Saturn's moons and
the only moon in the solar system with an atmosphere. Matson will
discuss how the surface of Titan may at first seem familiar to a
geologist--with stream beds, lakes, and shore lines--but the
materials are exotic. Rock-hard ice plays the role of sand and
gravel, and methane takes the role of liquid water. This event is
free, and no tickets or reservations are required.
