Brian:

I'm very sorry to hear about this, though I have to say that I'm not too
surprised. I enjoyed speaking with Michael for the Earth & Sky script I did on
space elevators and Liftport, and I think the concept is way cool (who doesn't?).
I suspect that we haven't heard the last of the Liftport gang.

I like that you see lessons in this. We can't move forward unless we learn
lessons from what doesn't work out. Too many space fans insist on doing things
the wrong way, then blame NASA or Democrats or robots or whatever when it falls
apart.

Earth & Sky is about to launch a swarm of guest blogs, and I've been asked to
participate. My first posting will, if all goes as planned, be about National
Dark Sky Week, but my second will be a requiem for Liftport.

"It's like when you're a kid, the first time they tell you that the world's
turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's
standing still. I can feel it - the turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our
feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, the entire planet is hurtling
around the Sun at sixty-seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're
falling through space, you and me. Clinging to the skin of this tiny little
world, and if we let go..." - The Ninth Doctor
