The second Particle & Field (P&F) satellite (1972 013D) was ejected into a
lunar orbit by Apollo-16 (1972 031A). Its intended orbit was 102 x 147 km
but, as a consequence of the difficulties encountered with the Apollo
spacecraft, this orbit was not achieved.
The 39 kg satellite was identical to the earlier P&F satellite (1971 063D)
except for the addition of a particle detector. It studied the Moon's
gravitational field and mass, the particle composition of space near the
Moon and the interaction of the Moon's magnetic field with that of Earth.
The satellite impacted on the Moon at 10d10'N, 111d56'E.
