[FPSPACE] China's Recoverable Capsule Heat Shield

I read about wooden heads of Soviet rockets in Slovenian newspaper TT (Tedenska tribuna) in sixties. But I never heard something similar from Russians. Article is somewhere in my archiv. So, story is perhaps  transformation of urban legend or it is truth?

  Is there any new insight into the old stories of China using oak wood, 
  or resin-soaked wood, for ablative heat shields on missile warheads
  or on recoverable satellites? I've heard, and re-told, the story so often,
  I've forgotten where it came from, and how reliable it was. Thanks!
