[FPSPACE] China's Recoverable Capsule Heat Shield

Is there any new insight into the old stories of China using oak wood, 
or resin-soaked wood, for ablative heat shields on missile warheads
or on recoverable satellites? I've heard, and re-told, the story so often,
I've forgotten where it came from, and how reliable it was. Thanks!
