Why is this such a suspicious reaction to unauthorized copying? Western cinema & theatre owners will automatically confiscate any such copying - and immediately evict those making the copy. As well as confiscating their equipment. Russians also expect that you ask for permission in advance, and that you pay extra admission fees for permission to take photos.
Occam's razor cuts up another conspiracy theory.

Just a thought ... What if this film was "confiscated and destroyed" to
prevent analysis of it? If this film was not showing events as they actually
occurred (the recovery of the "unmanned" capsule the following morning), scrutiny
of it might have revealed discrepancies.
Just a thought.
