Dear Colleagues,
I hope you'll all pardon one more bit of self-promotion. I have received
the first copies (softcover) of The First Space Race.
Overall, the publication of our work on the Sputnik-Explorer-Vanguard
competition represents a very nice, professional job by the folks at Texas A&M
University Press, who were easy to work with. The book is also being published in
hardcover, and those copies should follow soon. (The softcover edition omits
the author photos - I thought mine was a good picture, so naturally I hope
they at least get used on the dust jacket of the hardcover.)
A few typographical errors crept in at some point, and we had some
disagreements with the editors on rules of capitalization and punctuation. Naturally,
the people with the printing press get the last word on these things.
Sincere thanks from me and from my co-author, Erika, to everyone who
cooperated on our first book on space history.
Comments always welcome.
Regards to all,
Matt Bille
