Is there anyone out there in their previous life who worked on the F-106 MA-1 Computer for the Fire Control System on the F-106A/B?
I am looking for technicians, or Hughes field engineers who worked on these systems and can describe what they consisted of; tubes, transistors, relays, how they functioned, why they failed so much.
I'm trying to distinguish between the two blue boxes on the right hand side avionics bay and the black boxes on the left hand side avionics bay.
I'm also trying to figure out the distinction between the MA-1 computer and the Digitaire digital computer. What was the difference and what how were the two built. Circuit boards, mother boards, mini vacuum tubes, transistors?
Any help, assistance on this would be greatly helpful.
I know they updated the TACAN system to microcircuits at about the same time MM II was being moved to ICs and the Apollo computer's components were going to be microcircuits, but prior to CPUs or microprocessors. The 4004, 8080 were a ways off.
