Sure, but that wasn't the only problem. The star tracker
was rather sick, if I recall, making it hard to find a good
guide star to point with. And there were starting to
be other problems with the spacecraft. I think one could
argue that a few more months would have been worth doing,
but IUE was definitely not in good shape. It was a very different
situation from GRO/BATSE and EUVE.

(my colleagues and I were using IUE late in its life, and it
was definitely starting to get to the point where we decided
not to bother applying for time because it was so broken).
