You may recall that right before Neil Armstrong moved off the LM pad for his "small step/giant leap" into history books, the imagery cleared up rather dramatically (well, by '69 standards at least).  That was most likely the moment of the switchover between dishes (as I recall, it was also mentioned in a Reader's Digest article).
