Remember that the lunar base in Space: 1999 was named Alpha.

Oh, but then the nuclear waste on the lunar farside
exploded and sent Earth's moon zipping out of the Sol
System at FTL velocities, where it managed to encounter
aliens and their planets every week for two years.
