First, I apologize for juxtaposing Tyuratam and Baikonur in my last post.
I hate it when that happens.
Moral? Never post in a hurry, unless you enjoy looking like an idiot.

I doubt very much that anyone with the surname of "Bush" would have Word
One to officially say about any concept involving the word "Mars" and
"exploration". Remember, Bush the Elder was pilloried (rightly so) for his
Administration's role in NASA's execrable $400 billion "Mars Exploration"
plan.
Judging by his prickly meeting with Fed Chairman Greenspan yesterday (whom
Bush the Elder blames for the recession which cost him reelection in '92),
and the makeup of the new Cabinet so far, I would say the actions of this
new Administration will be informed quite a bit by long family memories,
notwithstanding recent campaign promises. I believed Al Gore when he said
"I'm my own man", but no one ever really believed "Dubya" when he said
that, did they? Look who came out of the woodwork when the Florida count
went south.
So who knows?, since ISS is actually up in space orbiting successfully, and
relations in space with the Russkiis are limping along, they might still
keep Dan Goldin (an appointee of Bush the Elder) around. Harrison Schmitt
didn't say Word One about being an administrator when he was here in Oak
Ridge week before last. News cameras were there, he had every opportunity.
Course, we didn't have a president-elect week before last, either.
