[FPSPACE] U.S physics blunder [in 1964] almost ended space

Begging the perfessor's pardon, but doesn't this incident refer to the
famous Starfish nuclear test in space in July 1962, not in 1964? There is
the small problem of the nuclear test ban treaties after 1962... In fact
the text refers to 'Starfish' by name right at the end of the post. It is
common knowlege that several US satellites were damaged by the Starfish
radiation (TRAAC and the UK's Ariel are names that come to mind).
