Albanians Arrested in Italy
BERGAMO, Italy - Three Albanians, two men and one woman, were arrested
on Tuesday in this northern Italian town for
forcing two Moldovan girls into
prostitution, Italian newsagency ANSA said.
Bergamo police arrested the three on charges of
forced slavery, crime
organization and violence.
The girls, 17 and 21, had asked for help to mobile
police units on Monday.
They said they were recruited into the ring in
their home country with the
promise of working as waiters in Italy, but they
were abused in Albania and
forced to prostitute in Bergamo.
Many Albanian mafiosi deal chiefly with
prostitutes and drugs trafficking in
Italy, and such groups were considered the most
alarming emerging crime
syndicates in Italy.
A gang that trafficked drugs in all Italy and
several other western countries was
rounded up last weekend.
