HAMBURG, Germany, Dec 17 (AFP) - Under-age girls are working as
prostitutes in brothels in Macedonia regularly visited by German
soldiers of the international peacekeeping force in neighbouring
Kosovo (KFOR), German television reported Sunday.
In a report by ARD television to be broadcast Sunday evening, a
16-year-old Bulgarian girl sold to a brothel in Tetovo, near
Macedonia's northern border with Kosovo, says that hundreds of
German soldiers have been among her clients.
In the report, a German soldier acknowledges being among her
clients, and says that he knows other German soldiers of the KFOR
contingent regularly have sex with under-age girls in brothels in
He said that his superiors were aware of such activities.
The woman keeper of a brothel in Macedonia also says in the
report that about a thousand girls not yet 15 or 16 years old are
working as prostitutes.
The German defence ministry said it could not confirm the
affirmations in the programme but that it was aware of a general
problem of prostitution in the Balkans.
