The US TV channel ABC on the 20/20 program on Friday,
December 1st, 2000 will air a 15 minute report on the growing
levels of sex tourism affecting children in Costa Rica.

With the crackdown on sex tourists who were preying on children
in Thailand and the Phillipines, many of these adults are looking for
new locations to prey on poor children. Central America in general,
and in particular Costa Rica, has become victim of one of the worst
forms of exploitation of children.

Casa Alianza has been trying to raise the issue on the national
agenda in Costa Rica for more than 2 years and has been the
subject of harsh verbal attacks by various government Ministers,
including the President himself, who refuse to see the evidence
regarding the scale of the problem affecting the poorest children in
that country.

In an effective and often dangerous undercover investigation, ABC's
Investigative Reporter Brian Ross has documented the dramatic
images of children as young as 10 years old, who are selling their
bodies for a few dollars to foreign tourists.

Please check your local listings for times. ABC is seen throughout
Latin America and the world on cable. The segment has been
scheduled for Friday but is subject to change.
