Traffickers Target Village Women
VLORA - An association for protection of women's
rights based in this
smuggling-stricken coastal town said that
people-smugglers target rural areas
to recruit would-be prostitutes.
Head of Hearth of Vlora Women Vera Lesko said that
result from a study
carried over a two-year period showed that 70
percent of women forced into
prostitution come from the rural areas.
"Girls from villages fall immediately prey of
traffickers with the promise of a
passionate love story, a marriage, and a calm and
rich future," Lesko said.
She said that "these men of no scruples know quite
well the psychology of
girls" from rural areas and their families: "They
know how to exploit their
mentality and their poverty."
"These girls accept to accompany men they do not
know well to countries
such as Italy, Greece and other, where they are
forced into prostitution," Lesko
added.
