Please join us for a special discussion of

   MODERN SLAVERY IN MAURITANIA

with Mauritanian political activist

   MESSAOUD OULD BOULKHEIR

on Friday evening, October 27th , 7 PM
Upstairs at the Bookstore Building (Winnett Hall), Club Room 1

structure), south of Del Mar (1 block west of Hill). Winnett
is south-west of where Holliston and San Pasqual meet.

Boulkheir, a former slave himself, is the president of El Hor,
the oldest anti-slavery organization in Mauritania. He will
discuss his work to end slavery, to establish a culture of
democracy and ethnic tolerance, and to promote economic justice
in the west African country of Mauritania.

Special note to members of AI Group 22 -- our book discussion
group selection for April this year, "Disposable People: New Slavery
In the Global Economy" by Kevin Bales, devoted a chapter to the
persistence of slavery in Mauritania, with extensive references to
the work of Boulkheir's organization with freed and escaped slaves.
