I hope that the wording of any law or laws to be passed re this is done
carefully, because there is the danger of generalising and making even a
consensual arranged marriage illegal. I am always wary whenever these
sorts of efforts are being made on behalf of young girls and women,
because often this spills over into the cultural aspects of people's lives.
While certainly forcing girls and women to marry against their will is
horrible, there are girls and women who do not object to an arranged
marriage to which they willingly enter into. Certainly, too often -- and I
have personally seen this -- girls and women in violently abusive
marriages are pushed back into that awful relationship "for the sake of the
community", or for "honour's sake".
