Lodge Report If Not Paid Salary, Foreign Maids Told

KOTA BAHARU, March 19 (Bernama) -- Foreign maids can lodge report with the
immigration authorities if they were not paid their salary or did not
receive the full amount due to them.

Kelantan Immigration Director Che Kamaludin Che Amah said the department
would submit the reports to the Labour Department for action as soon it
receives it.

"Foreign maids should not refrain from lodging such reports even though it
is under the jurisdiction of the Labour Department, provided they have a
valid work permit," he told newsmen in his office here.

However the state immigration authorities had yet to receive any of such
reports, he said.

"There were also no report on maid abuse in the state so far," he said.

He said there were 1,500 foreign maids, most of them Indonesians, working
in Kelantan.

Che Kamaludin said most of the maids were aged between 25 and 35 years old
but did not reject the possibility that some could be under age.

"Immigration regulations only allow employment of foreign maids aged
between 20 and 45 years old," he said.
