PRAGUE, March 18 (CTK) - Thirteen people suspected of organising trade in
women and procuring were detained in West Bohemia by policemen from the
Office for fighting organised crime on Friday, Police Presidium spokeswoman
Ivana Zelenakova told CTK today.

The Friday police raid on three erotic clubs and two flats was the result
of an eight-month operation. Fire weapons, licence plates to many stolen
cars, half a million crowns and hard currency worth 1.2 million crowns have
been seized during the operation.
The police also detained 16 women from Russia, Ukraine and Bulgaria who
will be handed to the foreigners' police and extradited, Zelenakova said.
The girls were lured to the Czech Republic by an offer of well-paid jobs in
the shoe and textile industry, she said. However, upon the arrival their
passports were taken away from them by the suspects who then sold them to
erotic clubs for about 18,000 crowns each. The girls did not receive any
pay there as they had to repay the debt to the club owners.
"We are estimating that more than 100 girls were lured to the country over
the year and that profits of the criminal organisation could be several
millions of crowns," Zelenakova said.
