3-8-00 SOUTH AFRICA: MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ILLEGAL TRADE OF
WOMEN.
JOHANNESBURG March 8 Sapa
A police task team on Wednesday evening arrested a 35-year-old man in
Johannesburg connection with the illegal trade of foreign women in South
Africa.
Director Nasser Mohamed from the Detective Services and Crime Intelligence
and International Liaison said the man, a Romanian national, was arrested
in Blairgowrie around 7pm after a 15 month investigation.
"The man is alleged to be a kingpin in bringing foreign women into the
country and then selling them to clubs," Mohamed said.
He said the man was found in possession of documentation of foreign
nationals and illegal aliens.
Mohamed said the suspect was also an illegal immigrant.
No more details could be released at this stage as the investigation was
still at a sensitive stage.
"But we want to make it clear that this sort of organised crime will
definitely not be tolerated and we are determined to get rid of the whole
syndicate," Mohamed said.
