Nepali Govt Sets Policy Against Girl Trafficking

KATHMANDU (March 16) XINHUA - The Nepali government has formulated a
national policy to combat girl trafficking, The Rising Nepal quoted a
state minister as saying Thursday.
Minister of State for Women and Social Welfare Kamala Pant told a
national convention against girl trafficking Wednesday that the government
has launched women awareness and income generation program for empowering
women and raising their awareness and economic status.
She said it is important to generate social awareness to resolve the
problem of girl trafficking which has remained a national issue.
Pant said the participation of women with low income would be ensured
in the income generation program and all efforts would be made to prevent
According to statistics, about 5,000-7,000 Nepali women and girls are
trafficked to India for prostitution every year. Living in a
male-dominated society, Nepalese women are very much prejudiced against
