MOSCOW, January 28 (Itar-Tass) - A child barely one year old has been
prevented from being sold out by his parents for 25,000 dollars, Itar-Tass
was told by the Department for fighting organized crime of the Moscow
region on Friday. The police acted on a tip received in December,1999

As a result of the operation conducted by the police the parents of the
child who had planned to sell the baby have been detained. The baby's
mother - a 16-year old woman, and its father, 21 said that the decided to
sell the child because they desperately needed money. However, none of
them was concerned about the fate of the baby presumably planned to be
sold to one of the Russian "nouveaux riches" whom the police suspected of
plans to buy the child for purposes of transplantation of his organs.
Another woman who claims to be the godmother of the child has been
detained on charges of involvement in the planned deal.
The child who will be one year old on February 4 has been placed into
an orphanage in Moscow.
