12-14-99 HUNGARY: SQUAD TO TACKLE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND EMPLOYMENT SET
UP.
Text of report in English by Hungarian news agency MTI

Budapest, 14th December: A 20-strong immigration service affiliated to the
Budapest Border Guard Headquarters began operation in Budapest on Tuesday
[14th December], spokesman for the National Border Guard headquarters,
Attila Krisan, told MTI.

He said that the group was charged with screening out illegal immigrants
and persons accepting work without valid work permits, and would also be
conducting raids on illegals together with the police.

In the experience of the Border Guard, illegal immigrants are generally
brought to, or near to, Budapest by alien smugglers, before they are moved
on to other countries, Krisan said.

Next year the Border Guard headquarters intends to increase the number of
immigration service agents to 80.
