Five Face Charges Of Organized Crime
Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, October 22, 1999
Five alleged members of an Asian organized crime group that operated in
South Florida were arrested Thursday on charges involving alien smuggling,
prostitution and drug smuggling.
The arrests were made as part of Operation Bonsai, an investigation that
has been ongoing since February 1998, according to an FBI release.
Kingkan Ye, Ying Wei Ye, Dean Van Jagers, Fnu Lnu and Tomas Wing Cheong
Wong were arrested Thursday and made an initial appearance in federal court
in Miami, said FBI special agent Terry Nelson.
Though the organization was primarily run by Chinese individuals, others of
Taiwanese, Thai, Japanese, Malaysian and Vietnamese backgrounds also are
believed to be involved.
The investigation uncovered numerous prostitutes who were illegal aliens
>from places including Thailand, China and Malaysia, according to the FBI
"We do anticipate more arrests," Nelson said.
