Ukrainian teacher held over sex ring allegations
KIEV, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Ukrainian police have detained a female school
teacher alleged to be behind a criminal syndicate that sells young
Ukrainian women to the sex industry in the United Arab Emirates, a police
spokeswoman said on Thursday.
Spokeswoman Olha Ovcharenko told Reuters by telephone from Cherkasy in
central Ukraine a psychology teacher, named only as Svetlana T, was
believed to head an international criminal group which included people from
Kazakhstan, Syria and the UAE.
The spokeswoman said the teacher was alleged to have sent 30 young women to
rich clients in the Middle East. The women had been promised highly paid
jobs as dancers, waitresses or house maids but ended up as prostitutes, she
