Two Plead Guilty In Slavery Case - (FORT MYERS) -- Two men are facing
between three and
five years in prison after pleading guilty in a slavery case. Federal
prosecutors in Fort Myers charged
Abel Cuello and German Covarrubias with smuggling more than 20 Mexicans
into Florida. Cuello
admits the laborers were forced to work off their 800-dollar smuggling fees
in farm fields picking
tomatoes at gunpoint. By pleading guilty, Cuello faces up to five years in
prison and a 250-thousand
dollar fine. Covarrubias could get up to three years in prison and a 250-
thousand dollar fine. The
case against a third suspect is pending and a fourth suspect has NOT been
arrested yet.
