The original decision not to post that story happened because GSN had
received conflicting reports on that investigation and the parties involved
even before the news article was printed. The article itself therefore
appeared slanderous to us, and the outcome of this case remains to be seen.
John Davies' reply to the article was posted to the list because we had seen
the article floating around on several listservs and know that many on the
STOP TRAFFIC list had heard of the story. Following the US legal system, GSN
assumes Davies innocence until proven guilty, and decided to give him voice
on STOP TRAFFIC to refute the story.
After a brief series of responses to the issue, no further messages have
been posted to STOP TRAFFIC or will be posted on this issue until there is a
final decision from the EU made on the case.
Apologies to the list if many of you felt that not posting the Times article
was censorship. GSN viewed it as sensitivity to a possibly slanderous,
STOP TRAFFIC list facilitator
