Dear List Members,
I am very upset by Victoria Marinelli's allegations of censorship. STOP
TRAFFIC is an open mailing list, one that promotes participation from all
voices on issues related to human trafficking (pro-sex worker, Coalition,
GAATW, Abolitionist, etc).
Yes, some messages to the list have not been posted for reasons including
that they have been off-topic, inappropriate, personal attacks or
potentially slanderous. People from various sides of the debate have not had
messages posted when the message's content has fallen into these categories.
I think the fact that there *has* been dialogue about a diversity of
definitions, approaches, points of view and experiences proves that STOP
TRAFFIC is open and uncensored. I know that this open dialogue has proven
confusing to some list members who, seeing several positions represented on
the list, question if STOP TRAFFIC has a distinct "position" on issues such
as how to approach the sex industry in this debate.
STOP TRAFFIC does not promote one single view. Furthermore, I do not feel
that Dr. Sloan believes that she speaks for the entire list. I respect her
opinion and appreciate her sharing her viewpoint with the list. I hope list
members do not feel that ONE voice or viewpoint is dominant on the
list---and if so, please add your voice to the discussion. I am aware that
there is no uniformity of experiences or perspectives on this issue, and I
do my best to moderate a discussion on it.
