I have recently been subjected to a pretty malicious press article accusing
me of all sorts of wrong-doing. All of it unsubstantiated rumour and
The article is now being circulated on various lists with the above subject
line. Suffice to say that the article concerned does not suggest in anyway
that I am a trafficker in women. However I am no stranger to unsubstantiated
rumours and the damage that they are intended do by discrediting someone
through paralysing suspicion.
I have been increasingly concerned that the discourse surrounding
trafficking is so polarised and politicised that any attempt to examine the
phenomena and then to seek to understand its diversity and complexities is
often met with bitter personal attack from radical sources.
