Women in Conflict Zones
Fall 1999 (Vol. 19, No. 3)
CWS/cf's Fall 1999 issue is committed to examining the lives and
experiences of women living in war-torn societies. The issue will focus on
militarization and its impact on the lives of women; women's role in the
the post-war nation; the relationship between war and neoliberalism and
economic restructuring and its implications for women; women's roles in
peace-building and resistance strategies. Our aim is to provide new gendered
thinking about international, security, and peace studies, as well as to to
identify alternative ways of doing research that links the work of activists and
grassroots organizations with academic theory in order to support the
efforts of local and international groups to effect change at a
regional, national, and global level. We strongly encourage contributions from
grassroots women's organizations working in war-torn countries, militarized
conflict zones, and post-conflict areas.
Possible topics include:
-Understandings and articulations of democratization in post-conflict
-Women and citizenship.
-Nationalism and women's roles.
-Effects of neo-liberalism and globalization on women's work during
war-time and post-war.
-Gendered structure and implications of international war crimes
-Militarization and violence against women.
-International feminist activism and ngo involvement in conflict zones.
-The politics of aid.
-Women's role in peace-building processes.
