Three arrested for trafficking 10 women to China

HANOI, Aug 17 (AFP): Three Vietnamese have been arrested for
trafficking in Vietnamese women to China, Hanoi police said
...Monday.

Police have detained two women and a man suspected of
operating a ring which sold 10 women to China, following a
seven-month investigation by police of both countries.

Trafficking of Vietnamese women to China has become...
increasingly serious...in recent years. Most women are sold
into prostitution, often in the belief they are going to
reputable jobs.

The government last year ordered a crackdown on gangs and
individuals who organise the sale of women and children into
prostitution overseas or force women to marry foreigners.

An estimated 5,000 Vietnamese women have been sold to
neighbouring countries in the past five years. Many have
been forced into prostitution in Taiwan, Macau and Cambodia
according to Vietnamese women's groups.
