Albanian Premier Visits Rome

ROME (Nov. 9) XINHUA - Albania's new Prime Minister Pandeli Majko arrived
here Monday for a two-day official visit aiming at boosting cooperation in
the fight against illegal immigration.

It is Majko's first foreign trip since he became premier on October 2. He
was received by Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro at the Quirinal
Palace Monday evening.

Among Majko's entourage were ministers in charge of defence, public order
and labor.

During his visit, Majko is expected to hold talks with Italian leaders on
illegal immigration, the situation of refugees in Italy and economic aid to
Tirana.

Illegal immigrants arrive on an almost daily basis on the southeastern
coast of Italy, in the Puglia region.

The two sides will also sign a protocol on the fight against organized
crime and the reorganization of Albania's police force with the Italian aid.

The Italian Foreign Ministry said Italy was the biggest contributor of aid
to Albania, with a total of 215 billion lira (129.5 million U.S. dollars)
earmarked for 1998.
