Man Sentenced for Child Pornography
By BLAKE NICHOLSON Associated Press Writer
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ A man serving 30 years in prison for killing his
daughter in a house fire
will serve another 10 years for trafficking in child pornography, a federal
judge has ruled.
U.S. District Judge Patrick Conmy on Tuesday rejected a request from Larry
Froistad Jr. that hsis
entire sentence on the federal pornography charge run at the same time as
his murder sentence.
Froistad confessed over the Internet earlier this year to setting a 1995
house fire that killed his
5-year-old daughter, Amanda.
Authorities who searched his computer turned up at least one additional
confession in which
Froistad admitted molesting and killing his daughter. They also found
hundreds of images of
children engaged in sexual acts and evidence that Froistad was a frequent
visitor of Internet chat
rooms for pedophiles.
Under plea agreements, prosecutors agreed to seek 30 years on the murder
charge and 10 years
on the pornography charge. The only question before Conmy was whether
Froistad would serve
the sentences simultaneously.
``I would like to try to redeem myself,'' Froistad told Conmy. ``I don't
believe I'll have the
opportunity to do that if I'm in prison until I'm 65 years old.''
San Diego police arrested Froistad at his home there in March. Members of an
group for problem drinkers tipped authorities that Froistad had confessed in
their group to
intentionally setting the fatal fire in Bowman.
