8. Chilly Today, Hot Tamale: Canada Raises Entry Requirements for
Strippers, Mexico Deports Them

Foreign exotic dancers may face a chilly reception when they try to enter
Canada to work. As of July 1, strippers are being required to apply for
visas at Canadian missions abroad, rather than at the border. Their
credentials as professional dancers will also be more thoroughly
investigated. In related news, Mexico has been turning up the heat on
foreign exotic dancers, some say at least partly in response to U.S. raids
on undocumented workers. About 10 surprise inspections of table-dancing
bars over the past several years have resulted in about 140 women being
asked either to leave Mexico, or to clarify their legal status.
