15 April 1965 Interkosmos program authorised.

Central Committee of the Communist Party and Council of Soviet Ministers Decree 'On Co-operation of the USSR and Socialist Countries in the Sphere of Research and Use of Space-international co-operation' was issued.


01 April 1967 Design work begins on Interkosmos version of DS

For the Interkosmos modifications V F Chutkin was Chief Designer and First Assistant was V S Budnik. East European experiments studied protons, electrons, alpha particles.


25 December 1969 Intercosmos 2 Program: DS. Launch Site: Kapustin Yar . Launch Vehicle: Kosmos 11K63. Mass: 320 kg. Perigee: 200 km. Apogee: 1,178 km. Inclination: 48.4 deg.

East European ionospheric tests. Investigation of the characteristics of the earth's ionosphere and of concentrations of electrons and positive ions.


01 December 1972 Intercosmos 8 Program: DS. Launch Site: Plesetsk . Launch Vehicle: Kosmos 11K63. Mass: 340 kg. Perigee: 203 km. Apogee: 645 km. Inclination: 71.0 deg.

Continued joint investigation of the characteristics of the earth's ionosphere and recording of electron and proton fluxes.
