Circumstances are often grim for children born with facial defects in Russia; they are frequently given up for adoption at birth and even simple reconstructive surgery is difficult to obtain. This association was founded in 1992 to help children born with facial defects overcome social and physical obstacles and to provide support for their families. The goals of the association include increasing access to necessary surgical procedures, securing needed medical equipment and qualified personnel for hospitals, and defending the rights of children with facial defects.
