Naryn is working to halt nuclear testing in Western Kazakstan and to raise public awareness of the impact of the military-industrial complex on the environment. In 1993, Naryn investigated the levels of radioactivity and heavy metals in Kapustin Yar, and began a research project on public health and environmental conditions in the same region in 1996.
