The goal of the pilot project, The Environmental Management and Leadership Training for Women in Silesia, which is running in Wroclaw, Poland is to increase the effectiveness of Silesian women's activities in the sphere of environmental health and protection.
Through organizing meetings with women representatives from local communities, the most important problems connected with environmental protection were identified and the possibilites for solving them without financial expenditures were discussed. Also, the first steps toward solving some of the selected problems were undertaken. The knowledge and skills obtained by the leaders through their participation in a training program are being used during the period before the upcoming local government elections in early summer.
By taking part in meetings and lobbying candidates for city council, project participants will contribute to concentrating the attention of candidates for local office on environmental and health problems as defined and presented by women. The great advantage resulting from the project is the fact of increasing the active participation of women in public matters. In this way the project also fulfills the role of educating women for democracy.
