Mission Statement Summary

Today new information about our lives, our world and our universe assaults our senses, making unprecedented demands for attention, understanding and action. No individual and no culture can escape this in a world where the very atmosphere of the planet is changing. Every day, as we seek to process new information, the limits of our understanding are tested. How can we notice what we need to notice? How can we respond creatively to unprecedented situations? How can we act to make our worlds more what we would like them to be? The mission of the Frontiers of Perception Project is to provide means by which the limits of our understanding may be expanded so that we may assimilate new information and act upon it.

Mission Statement

In every human culture today, new information about us, our world, and our universe arrives with increasing speed and volume to change our lives, for better or for worse. Some people embrace change, some people reject it; but, in a world where the very atmosphere of the planet is changing, everyone must deal with change.

Every second, every day, every year, how many people miss changes that will prove critical to achieving the lives they want to live?... What is it to miss such a change? The Frontiers of Perception project offers a general conceptual structure for minimizing the number of times such changes are missed. Where the limits of our understanding are tested, it proposes a general strategy for stretching and expanding those limits. Education is redefined as the act of noticing whatever is new to the person involved, and then imagining what to make of it. It is said that this takes place Ron the frontiers of perception,S where the known fades into the unknown, for absolutely anything to which attention may be given.

The mission of the Frontiers of Perception Project is thus to provide a means by which the limits of what we can notice and understand are increased to deal creatively with change. The challenge is to build a world in which many different kinds of people, each on their own frontiers of perception, can prosper and thrive, contributing their unique insights to the wealth of human knowledge necessary for our continued existence.

Toward this end, the Frontiers of Perception Institute will seek out projects where this approach to education offers a means by which the limits of our understanding may be expanded to deal effectively with the rate and scale of change that increasingly structures our daily lives.
