The St Petersburg Press was launched in May 1993 by a team of four founders (a New Zealander, an American and two Russians). It is a weekly newspaper with a (hard copy) print run of 15,000 copies. The St Petersburg Press joined the World Wide Web in July of 1993, in the runup to that year's Goodwill Games international sporting event, which focused international attention on St Petersburg. The St Petersburg Press was the first English-language newspaper in Russia to publish on the Web. For a long time we were the only one. It was exciting for us when we discovered we weren't alone! At the other end of the Russia, in Vladivostok on the Pacific coast, another team is producing Russia's other English-language newspaper on the Web, the Vladivostok News.
