COSSACKS CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY WITH CHARACTERISTIC PANACHE
Cossacks last week celebrated the second anniversary
of a new equestrian unit in their Nevskaya settlement. There are currently
around 60,000 Cossacks in St Petersburg divided among three settlements in the
Leningrad region: Nevskaya, Platovskaya and Okhtinskaya. The Cossack regiments
of St Petersburg were raised to guard the members of the former Imperial
court.
