City gets its own crooner

By day he is a member of St Petersburg's expatriate business community, but by night its local answer to Frank Sinatra.

That's the claim by publicists of American Steve Douglas, vocalist at the Sky Bar of the Hotelship Peterhof****.

Douglas has sung throughout the world, including Germany, France, China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

In his native United States he performed at Chicago's famous "Earl of Old Town" and in Washington at "Blues Alley" and the "1501 Club." He has sung with Mel Torme and the late Henry Mancini.

After many visits to St Petersburg between 1990 and 1994, Douglas, raised in Chicago, made the decision to move to St Petersburg to rediscover his heritage. His family came from Byelorussia and Ukraine, but were all but wiped out during World War II.

Douglas can be seen each Friday and Saturday night, 10 pm -- 1 am, at the Sky Bar lounge of the Hotelship Peterhof****. He performs alongside the Sergei Ruchinsky Band (formerly the Troika Band).
